6. Submit to Directories.
Especially if you are an affiliate. If you submit your website to high quality, human edited directories, chances are the webmaster for the directory will become one of your users. And the links don’t hurt at all.
I can pretty much tell you that I submitted a site to 25 directories yesterday and got 2 adsense clicks that were worth more than $4.00. This is a site that has no traffic, so I can guarantee that the directory submissions helped. (Along with building quality content.)
If you're trying to get directory webmasters to click on your ads or buy your products, it's a good idea to use linkbait as the lead article on your site, while you're doing your submissions. Human directory owners are just as curious as the rest of us.
(If you want to know what a linkbait article is, go to the supermarket and look at the cover of the National Inquirer.)
Never use reciprocal directories that automatically generate link pages AND generate publicly available directories. I'm trying to clean my sites out of an auto directory now. Google looks on these types of links as trying to deceptively gain page rank. It's great to get a number of auto links a day, but it hasn't helped my sites gain page rank. Only quality links will do that for you.
