Jim will concentrate his efforts on the first 10 keyword phrases on his list. The higher the ratio, the better chance he has to break into the top 10 searches.

Of course you can just use Wordtracker. It’s a more precise tool and easier to use, especially if you are launching niche mini-sites.

Remember that single keywords tend to be more competitive. Find two and three word phrases that would work for someone searching your website topic. We actually dropped the “how to” off of our keyword phrases and the search results were dramatically different.

Also, don’t discount your friends and family for keyword phrases. Men, women and children will search for things differently. You’d be surprised at the number of phrases you can come up with if you brainstorm with a team of people.

TIP:

Make sure you talk to someone younger. Social networking has become a huge factor in promoting websites and you’ll get a better idea talking to your kids about “how” they search the web and where they spend their time.
